Hereabouts for iPhone. Last updated November 7, 2026.

Hereabouts doesn't collect any data. Your notebook is saved on your iPhone. Backups you make, and Pro's weekly backups to your own iCloud Drive, go to places you control. You don't need an account. There's no server, analytics or advertising.

What stays on your iPhone

Your iPhone's own backup to iCloud or a computer may include this data, under Apple's terms.

Homes, private things and lending

You can keep more than one home in your notebook. Private things are hidden from Spotlight. Siri never says their places out loud. You can see their places only inside the app. To lend a thing, type a name or choose one from Contacts. Apple's contact picker runs outside Hereabouts. Hereabouts can't access your contacts. It keeps only the name you choose in your notebook.

Camera and photos

You can use the camera or a photo you choose for a thing, place or box label. On supported iPhones, you can get suggested names for things in a shelf photo. Hereabouts reads the photo on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere. You check the names before you save them. Hereabouts makes box labels on your iPhone. You choose when to print or share them.

Voice memos

Hold the microphone on Find or tap Say where on the widget to say where you keep a thing. Hereabouts uses Apple's speech recognition on your iPhone to turn your words into text. It doesn't keep the recording. It keeps only the text you check and choose to save. To understand your words, it uses rules in the app and, on supported iPhones, Apple's on-device model. Your iPhone may need to download speech recognition the first time. Voice memos work only in English for now.

Notifications

Hereabouts schedules reminders on your iPhone. They include the thing's name unless you hide names in Settings. You get a reminder on the day you choose to ask for a lent thing back. You also get a Sunday evening recap and a monthly Still there? check. You can turn those off in Settings. If you still need to pack things, you get a reminder the evening before your trip. You can also get a reminder before your Pro free trial ends. Hereabouts doesn't ask for access to your calendar.

Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight and the widget

You can search for your things and places from the Home Screen through Spotlight. The Spotlight index stays on your iPhone. When you ask Siri or run a shortcut, Apple handles your request under its own privacy terms. Hereabouts answers from your notebook on your iPhone. Use Find or Say where on the widget to open the app. These buttons read nothing from your notebook.

Backups and exports

You can export a backup file or spreadsheet. With "Back up everything," you choose which photos to include. When you restore, you replace the whole notebook. These files go only where you save or share them. They aren't encrypted. Keep them somewhere private.

With Pro, weekly backups are on by default. They go to your own iCloud Drive, or your iPhone if iCloud Drive is off. You keep the newest five. Backups in your iCloud account follow Apple's terms. The developer can't see them.

Purchases

You buy Pro through Apple. Apple handles your payment. Through StoreKit, Apple tells Hereabouts which plans you own, whether you're in a free trial, and when your plan renews or ends. Hereabouts uses this to turn on Pro and show the right dates. It never sees your name, payment details or Apple Account.

Deleting your data

You can delete your data on your iPhone. Choose Erase this notebook in Settings or delete the app. Your saved backups stay in iCloud Drive, on your iPhone or elsewhere until you delete those files. The developer has none of your data. You don't need to ask us to remove it.

Children

Hereabouts doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Support emails

If you email support, we see your address and message. We use them only to reply. You choose whether to send anything private, such as photos of your things.
